December Delivery

Estimated delivery time Post.nl 8-10 business days

December is the busiest month for package companies. Unfortunately this brings delays in parcel delivery.
My parcel was willing to give us a clear explanation on how the processing happens at Post.nl and why parcels currently take longer to arrive. We hope that this will clarify for you the processing process and why a parcel sometimes takes a week to be delivered.

The process looks like this, after the parcel point receives the shipment, the package will be placed on a roll cage. Around six (on average) a driver from PostNL will pick up the roll container(s) from the parcel point and this driver will drive them directly into the depot.

This depot starts around 8 o'clock with a sorting round, where the parcels will receive their so-called sorting scan. This is followed the next day by a distribution scan from the depot near your customer, followed by the driver who will deliver the package to your customer.

In the current peak period we unfortunately notice that there are a lot of delays before the aforementioned sorting scan. Mondays and Tuesdays are particularly busy. The bulk of the roll containers and mail bags arriving at the sorting center is such that not everything can be processed. The parcel ends up in a traffic jam, so to speak. This traffic jam can amount to as many as 500,000 parcels nationwide.

PostNL has managed to increase capacity from 1.8 million packages per day, to 2.1 million packages per day by 2021. This year, PostNL was able to increase capacity as well, but despite the huge increase, the sorting machines cannot work faster than they normally do. As a result, the delays occur mainly vóór the sorting scan.

For this reason we ask you and your customers to wait a little longer than we are normally used to from PostNL. They are running at full speed and trying to sort all packages as soon as possible.

I advise you and your customers to check the Track&Trace daily - after the sorting scan we experience almost no delays and your customer will receive the parcel the same day or the day after.

I apologize for the delay and thank you for your patience.
